How much do you charge?

It depends on many factors; how far away from the seacoast of New Hampshire, whether i need multiple speaker set-ups, how many performing hours you need, etc. But a good starting point for most DJ services in and around this area is $750. My weddings average from $750-$2000…some clients get uplights, some with ceremonies, some with multiple locations, etc. I need to know as many details as possible when you go to my contact page or we can talk about it during our first communications…times involved, locations, extra speaker set-ups, etc. I can help you determine what you might need based upon very little information. I’ve performed for hundred of weddings so I can offer you some great advice to make sure your music needs are worry free!

Do you have references we can call or email?

This gets asked rarely, but I usually do not provide references. The only people that could reference me would be past clients and other wedding vendors. I find that wedding vendors don’t want to be bothered by trying to get other vendors their own business, and past wedding clients definitely do not want to be contacted by someone else after their wedding. Hopefully my web site speaks for itself, but if not, a conversation with me in person or over the phone should answer any questions you might have. I have performed hundreds of weddings all over New England for over ten years. If I wasn’t reputable you would find out about it on wedding chat boards or local reviews like “yelp”.

What happens if you can’t make the wedding due to sickness or other unforeseen circumstance?

This was getting asked a lot a few years ago. My answer is always this; I have never missed a wedding AND I have never even heard of any vendor needing to miss a wedding. And that’s in the hundreds or thousands of weddings. If it should happen I have a few DJ’s I would call to substitute for me that are similar in style. And if THEY aren’t free, you have full access to my equipment and I would have someone come and set it up. It’s run by computer and is very user friendly. Again, chances of that happening with me or any of your vendors is next to zero percent. Do not be drawn in to those horror stories you might read on the internet or see on T.V.. If in fact that did happen, it’s extremely rare.

Do you perform ceremonies?

Yes, for both a DJ setup and/or piano (I play piano as well, and bring an electric piano if needed), although it depends on the event site as to which I can use, which will sound best, and if I can perform both the ceremony and the reception for you logistically.

Are there extra fees, do you need overnight accommodations, and do you need to be fed?

There are NO extra fees, only overnight stays for events over 3 hours away from Portsmouth NH, and yes I always require a meal; not necessarily the same as what the guests have but something that you would be happy eating yourself…ie, no 3 day old lunch meat please from the caterer please :-)  Trust me, it’s happened.

Do you have backup equipment?

Yes. My equipment consists of QSC speakers and subwoofers, Denon mixers, Apple computers, and Sennheiser cordless microphones. I bring with me a complete backup collection on CD as and ipod/ipad. I have yet to need to use any backup equipment due to failures.

Do you use a laptop, CD’s or other way to play our music?

For years I used mini-discs which are a great and safe format, as well as CD’s, but i recently moved over to all computerized. It’s very efficient and gives me much more creative control over the music. My Apple computer is extremely reliable and has never backfired on me.

What’s your style and how do you get people to get out on the dance floor?  We want a fun dance party!

Great! So do I! There are 3 types of DJ styles; too relaxed, too over the top, and somewhere in the middle. I would consider myself somewhere in the middle. I can turn it up when needed, and can put together great mixes from song to song when the dancing has reached a fever type pitch. But at the same time I am not a DJ that interacts on the mic with the crowd. The only speaking i do is to make announcements, introductions, and introductions to first and special dances. Otherwise, once dancing starts I rely on my experience of how to pick good songs for the moment that I am dealing with. Some weddings require you start right out with playing Usher or Beyonce and some require you start out playing 50′s and 60′s music. I have to know which I’m dealing with. Most weddings start out with 60′s and 70′s and maybe some swing and go from there to cover a little bit of every decade. But, everyone is different and every wedding takes on a life of it’s own. If modern music is the only thing that people are liking, I’m not going to throw on something from the 70′s just because I haven’t played any yet. I’m going to try and please as many people as possible throughout the night, but most especially the married couple and their wedding party.

Do you take requests?

Yes, but it depends on whether you’ve asked me to accept requests or not and whether I think that persons request is suitable for the situation. Every situation and every wedding is different. I excel in being able to make quick decisions that affect the most number of people in the most positive way.

Do you accept playlists and do-not playlists from clients?

Yes! Generally speaking, if a client gives me about 20 requests and some other ideas for do-not plays I will get the idea of what they are looking for. Anymore than that can get a little much. It’s important that the client “star” the songs that are “must plays” as I can’t always get to every request. You do have the option however of providing me with every single song you’d like to hear and not to have me choose any. Just keep in mind that DJ’s that perform 20-60 weddings a year should already have a pretty good idea of what will and will not work well. Regardless, you’re the client, you can have anything you want!

What do you wear?

Suit and tie. It blends in better with your guests.

Do you provide us with song lists to chose from?

Yes, I have a great list that is divided up into each decade. It’s a small list that is made up of my most requested or most often played songs. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have clients that pick zero songs on that list because I do. Each client is different and has different likes. If they want to hear nothing but 80′s music that night, that’s what they’ll get.

Do you have contracts?

Yes. I usually send them by email and the client can email or mail them back. I require a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% is due 14 days prior. I do accept credit cards, but checks are appreciated.
